一、句子中出现下列单词或短语时,往往表示两个相反的或不同的 意义

even, but, even though, however, yet,in spite of,despite, although, instead, on the Other hand, on the contrary⋯⋯

例如:

  1. It was a bitter cold night,but the old man wore alight jacket and his head and hands were bare.

有时句中出现上述这些词时,并不一定表示两个句子的意义是相反的, 而只是给出一个相反意义的线索,真正的意义还需要读者去猜。

例如:Columbus thought he had reached the East Indies,but he has wrong.

“he was wrong”这句表达的意义并不是和前一句相反,而是给出一个线索,即哥伦布的想法是错误的。真正的意思为“哥伦布去的地方不是印度。”再如: Mr Johnson was rich and famous. Yet he wasan
